Carolina Student Legal Services is open 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., every class and exam day, including the summer sessions. We are closed on Reading Days, Unviversity Holidays, and breaks between academic sessions – any day classes or exams are not held. Please check the University Academic Calendar to determine what dates we are closed.
Before contacting us to schedule an appointment, please check your eligibility for our services. To do this, call the Cashier’s Office and verify that you are currently a full-time student paying the Student Legal Services student activity fee. Once you have determined your eligibility for our services, please call the office at (919)962-1303 and speak with Stephanie Camhi, or stop by to schedule an appointment. Please be aware that we cannot schedule appointments before 8:30AM and our last appointment time is at 4:00PM. Appointments cannot be scheduled via email.
- an uncertified copy of your criminal record, which can be obtained from the Orange County Court House in Hillsborough, Monday through Friday, 8:30am until 5pm, or at the Orange County Court House satellite location at the Chapel Hill Post Office on Franklin Street, on Tuesdays from 9am-12pm. We have a sample printout of this available in our office; it may be helpful to obtain this from us and take it with you to the Clerk of Court’s office, for clarification’s sake.
- if you signed a Deferred Prosecution Agreement, you MUST bring a copy of this with you. If you do not currently have a copy of it, you can ONLY get this from the Orange County Court House in Hillsborough, Monday through Friday, 8:30am until 5pm.
- If your case was dismissed pursuant to compliance with a Deferred Prosecution Agreement, the law now requires payment of a $175.00 court filing fee when your petition to expunge your record is filed. Please bring this fee in with you for your appointment with Student Legal Services, in the form of either a certified check or money order, made out to the Orange County Clerk of Superior Court.
